Wicked in Detroit Reviews

Compliments to the producer of the captivating, “Oz” inspired Broadway musical, “Wicked,” for delivering a production with an extraordinarily high approval rating. Detroit audiences are seemingly growing more and more appreciative of the talents demonstrated musically, scenically, and artistically. Viewers consistently praise the singing, acting, and overall performances throughout the entire musical. Here’s what some of the reviewers are saying:

From a Freep.com Review:
This reviewer comments on his approval of the visual presentation:
“Physically, Wicked is still a marvel, from the elaborate, witty costume design to the simple shadow play as Dorothy finally chucks that fated bucket of water. Even without the tinted glasses that its residents wear, the green hue of the Emerald City matches the Technicolor wonder of the movie “Oz.” Three-dimensional backdrops, full of moving cogs and gears, reflect on the “Wicked” production as a well-oiled machine.”

He then continues with praise of Wicked’s vocal talents:
“And the vocal work is solid, if not soaring. The women’s climactic duet, “For Good,” may not send the chills I remember from the first time, but it still cements a tricky relationship that the performers have the chemistry to pull off.”

From a Mlive.com Review:
Carol mentions how the production exceeds expectations:
“It’s a surprise worth experiencing, even for the most skeptical of showgoers who savor every song and every scene.”
…and compliments the actresses:
“When you’ve seen “Wicked” on Broadway with original cast members Idina Menzel and Kristin Chenoweth, you can’t imagine anyone rivaling their performances. But not even the Wizard of Oz could have picked two more talented actresses than Donna Vivino and Katie Rose Clarke”

From a Detnews.com Review:
Lawrence sums it all up for us:
“And trust me, this imaginative, vibrant staging of Wicked is a bargain at full price. The sets and costumes are eye candy by the boxful, the cast is funny and smart and the musical values are sky high. One more thing: You want a souvenir T-shirt? Your bucks stop here. The Opera House lobby has been transformed into a Wicked department store.”
The Wicked tour is currently scheduled at the Detroit Opera House from December 10th (12/10) until January 4th (1/4). Their next stop will be Louisville. If you would like tickets, even for sold out shows, please browse this selection of Wicked tickets.
